Nakshatra means "that which never decays."
It is the name given to the asterisms or mansions of the Moon. Vedic astrology
uses 27-fold division of the zodiac called Nakshatra (constellations). The Nakshatras
represent the abodes into which the fruits of our labor, our Karma, is transferred
and stored. The Nakshatras dispense the fruits of Karma, the highest of which
is the fruit of our worship and meditation, our spiritual labor of life. That
is their prime value, and therefore, during the Homa, the name of one's birth
Nakshatra is called out to God.

This brief description for each Nakshatra is
provided as a very general introduction to Vedic astrology. The suns position
by Nakshatra is considered less important in Vedic astrology than the Moons
position in the Nakshatra. The dates given in this table are very approximate,
since the Suns motion isnt always constant (and that is why we have
leap years). If you were born close to the beginning and ending dates listed,
or if you want to learn about the significance of your Moon Nakshatra, you can
consult Bharat to precisely determine your Nakshatra.
